What Preventative for apartment buildings should be taken?

Apartment buildings are buildings that have several dwelling units rather than only one. These buildings can be large or small depending on the number of units it has. Preventative maintenance is essential for apartment buildings. Whether you are a renter or owner of the apartment, you need to keep your wallet up for the maintenance of the apartment building.

For your ease, we have brought you 5 maintenance checklist which will help you in keeping track of the repair and maintenance of your apartment building:

Check the lease agreement:

If you are a renter, then you must check the lease agreement to keep track of the responsibilities you hold for the apartment. Every leasing company and landlord is different, so your responsibilities could vary according to your apartment. These responsibilities may include replacing bulbs, replacing the air filters, removing the yard waste, maintaining appliances, etc. No matter what maintenance is required, you should keep up with that, and you should inform your landlord or leasing company about the damages immediately.

Paints and walls:

Maintaining paints and walls plays an essential role in the repair and maintenance of your apartment. The nail holes must be filled as soon as possible. Moreover, you must use a drywall patch kit to repair most wall damage like doorknob holes, moisture damage, or other holes or damage.

When it comes to wall paints and wallpapers, smudges and small damages are common. These wear and tear can be repaired at an affordable cost. However, the paint should be returned to its original state and color after the repair.

Doors:

The doors of the apartment buildings must be taken care of. A malfunctioning or broken door can lead to more significant damage afterward. We have mentioned some preventative maintenance tips that you must keep in mind:

  • Make sure the hinges are properly lubricated.
  • Make sure the door sweeps are not worn out or broken.
  • Ensure that the chain locks are secured.
  • Make sure the weather stripping is working properly.
  • Ensure that the deadbolt is in order and working properly without any hiccups or snags.

Windows:

Be aware of the condition of your windows. Normal wear and tear should be fixed in the early stages; otherwise, it will create a more significant problem afterward. Check the window screen periodically for tampering and damages. Always look for foggy double-pane windows, which are formed by insulated windows that have broken seals.

Garbage disposal:

Garbage disposal should always be handled properly because it includes the most important point of maintenance of apartment buildings. Most people don’t have an idea about what they can put down in the garbage disposal. To keep the disposal new and working avoids draining the following things into it:

  • Potato peels.
  • Bones.
  • Celery and asparagus.
  • Eggshells.
  • Grease or oil.
  • Fruit seeds.
  • Coffee grounds.

In addition to the above tips, some garbage disposal tips may also include:

  • To avoid clogging, always run the water fully at full pressure until the garbage is properly disposed of.
  • To avoid foul smells, you can grind a lemon and its peels into the disposal.
  • To sharp the blades of the disposal, grind some ice cubes into it.
